Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Psychologist conducts psychological evaluations and assessments to individuals with serious mental illness (SMI), serious emotional disturbance (SED), substance use disorder (SUD), and developmental disability (DD) in an outpatient setting. Participates in treatment planning and interdisciplinary meetings related to discharge planning. Participates in evaluation clinical programming in areas of effectiveness and assessment of training needs. Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings for development of clinical programming.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Conducts psychological assessments as well as intellectual, psychological, and personality tests, and prepares reports.
  • Facilitates, as requested, treatment team reviews and treatment planning.
  • Prepares reports and testifies in court as needed.
  • Provides consultation and evaluation of clinical programs. Participates in community assessment and planning.
  • Consults with Agency treatment staff and representatives of other agencies or programs regarding diagnosis, treatment and discharge planning.
  • Provides training.

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Completes assessments and evaluations across all clinical programs regarding individuals for clinical programming.
  • Completes forensic evaluations.
  • Performs such other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Thorough knowledge of the current theories, principles, practices, assessment techniques, and instruments related to psychological evaluation, including forensic and those associated with criminal and pathological behavior.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques related to individual therapy, counseling practices, and risk assessment for individuals with SMI, SED, SUD, and DD.
  • Ability to establish clinical outcome measures across services.
  • Ability to conduct effective interviews, observe, assess, and provide recommendations related to program effectiveness.
  • Ability to risk assess and prioritize service demands.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain patient medical records and prepare reports in compliance with licensure regulations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff and with community partners

Job Requirements

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIRED:

Licensed by the Virginia Board of Medicine as a clinical psychologist or by the Board of Psychology as a Psychologist (Clinical) required.

Psy.D. or Ph.D. in Psychology from an APA accredited graduate school required.

Valid Driver’s License and a safe driving record required.
