Job Title: Resident Counselor
Department: Shelter
Reports To: Interim Housing Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non-exempt

SUMMARY

Bridge to Home operates a Shelter program which provides temporary nightly shelter, meals and showers for up to 60 homeless clients. Shelter Resident Attendants are responsible for overseeing the day-to-day functions of the shelter, its clients and its volunteers and reports directly to the Shelter Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Report to interim housing Supervisor on a daily basis
  • Monitors shelter check-ins, showers, meals, and shelter activities
  • Clean-up of facilities, including showers, restrooms and dining hall
  • Assists volunteers with meals and clean up
  • Maintains a professional, welcoming attitude with clients
  • Enforces shelter rules, policies, and procedures with clients
  • Report disturbances with employees, clients, and guest to the shelter manager
  • Attends monthly meetings with the shelter and organization team.
  • May be required to serve meals, organize donations, cleaning and disinfecting areas
  • Other duties as assigned and related to the job

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent, required

Valid Driver’s License with no major infractions, required

Prior experience working with people of diverse backgrounds

Prior experience working with homeless or low income people, highly desired

Computer literate in Word and Excel, required

Must be able to pass Live Scan background

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general procedures or regulations.

Ability to write reports and business correspondence.

Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing to clients, supervisor, and other staff members.

Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients

Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.

Ability to effectively present information to management and other resident assistants

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to understand written and oral instructions and communication to make quick and reasonable decisions and conclusions.

Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

All candidates for Bridge to Home employment, whose regular duties will require to be in close physical contact with shelter clients, must present a current (not more than 1-year-old at time of hire) certificate or medical note of a negative tuberculosis test before they are eligible for employment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand and walk, regularly. Employee must be able to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk, hear, and smell. The employee must be able to occasionally lift and/or move items of up to 15lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is outside weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

WEEKLY HOURS: Various schedules available. Non-traditional hours, including holidays paid at time and a half. Part-time to full-time positions available, including on-call.

SALARY RANGE: $22.00 per hour
