Social Media and Communications Intern Description


Join the NGO CSW/NY team to help develop and facilitate a platform for the voices and leadership of feminists and women’s rights organizations globally! Have an essential role in creating branding for and developing the NGO CSW Forum platform, one of the largest civil society gatherings at the United Nations. Interns will also have the opportunity to network and connect with global activists, organizations, and those within the UN system.


This 9 month internship requires interns to work a minimum of 15 hours/week at $16.50 per hour.

Intern tasks and projects include:

  • Creating content for social media and other comms platforms and/or campaigns;
  • Help develop, plan, and implement campaigns for UN and CSW advocacy training;
  • Assist with developing the content of the NGO CSW70 Forum virtual platform, as well as a communications plan for the NGO CSW70 Forum;
  • Assisting with the communications for the Youth Leaders & Young Professionals program;
  • Taking a leadership role with the Youth Leaders & Young Professionals.

Requirements:

  • Passionate about gender equality and women and girls movements;
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and effective social media communications strategies;
  • Previous NGO communications experience is preferred;
  • Speak and write clearly and effectively;
  • Ability to research and identify target audiences;
  • Tailor language, tone, style and format to match the audience;
  • Ability to assist with implementing messaging strategies;
  • Mature intercultural communication abilities; practical experience in international settings is an asset;
  • UN experience or immense curiosity and eagerness to learn about human rights and the UN
  • Excellent customer service, particularly in diverse environments, both in person and by phone, with high professionalism;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast paced office and work assignments from a variety of staff and volunteers
  • Proficiency using the latest versions of Google Suite , Microsoft Office, and Canva Pro;
  • Undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to apply;
  • Background in fields of Communications, Journalism, Design, Marketing, or related disciplines preferred;
  • Proficiency in one of the UN languages other than English is an advantage. Proficiency in French and/or Spanish is highly valued.


Please note the following required qualifications before applying:

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States (We are unable to sponsor visas);
  • Must be able to travel to the office in New York City at least 2 days a week (We are unable to assist with relocation)
  • Must be able to commit to a full-time schedule during the two weeks of the NGO CSW70 Forum in March 2026.
