Job Summary

This is completely remote-however we need someone licensed in the Georgia area.
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Substance Abuse Counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in behavioral health and addiction counseling, providing support and guidance to individuals struggling with substance use disorders. This role involves conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, and facilitating individual and group therapy sessions. The Substance Abuse Counselor will work collaboratively with clients, families, and other healthcare professionals to promote recovery and improve overall well-being.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to evaluate the severity of substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health issues.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on client needs, incorporating evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing.
  • Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions to address addiction issues, coping strategies, and life skills development.
  • Provide crisis intervention and management for clients in acute distress or crisis situations.
  • Maintain accurate medical documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations, including intake forms, progress notes, and treatment summaries.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure holistic patient care, including social workers, medical staff, and community resources.
  • Engage in ongoing research to stay current with best practices in addiction medicine and behavioral health.
  • Support clients in navigating community resources for home care, family counseling, and PTSD care as needed.
  • Monitor client progress throughout treatment and adjust plans as necessary based on data collection and diagnostic evaluations.

Qualifications

  • Bacehlors or Masters degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Valid licensure or certification as a Substance Abuse Counselor or equivalent credentials preferred.
  • Experience in psychotherapy, crisis intervention, group therapy, or individual counseling is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, medical records management, CPT coding, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of behavioral therapy techniques including applied behavior analysis and behavior management strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of case management principles and experience in patient care settings such as hospitals or community health organizations is beneficial.
