About Job

Mount Mercy University invites applications for our next Director of Counseling Service, a dynamic leader who will oversee our Counseling Services Center and provide direct support to students in a thriving academic environment.

As the Director of Counseling Services, you'll be responsible for the overall operation and leadership of the Counseling Center on our Cedar Rapids campus. This position includes supervising professional counseling staff and interns, providing direct counseling services, managing departmental operations and budget, and serving as a key campus resource in crisis response.

This role requires a dedicated professional who is responsive, compassionate, highly organized, and committed to supporting a diverse student body. The successful candidate will make a direct impact on the mental health and safety of our community and must be available for occasional after-hours crisis support during the academic year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage Counseling Services staff, including recruitment, training, and supervision.
  • Provide individual mental health counseling to students; manage own caseload.
  • Supervise counseling interns in collaboration with MMU's Marriage and Family Therapy graduate program.
  • Oversee administrative functions, maintain confidential records, and prepare regular reports.
  • Lead campus mental health initiatives, educational programs, and outreach efforts.
  • Serve as a liaison to local hospitals and mental health providers; maintain a strong referral network.
  • Coordinate emergency responses involving student mental health crises.
  • Monitor and manage the Counseling Services budget.
  • Participate in university-wide initiatives related to student wellness and success.

Qualifications:

  • Master's in counseling, social work, or related field (doctoral preferred)
  • Valid Iowa counseling license (or license-eligible)
  • 3+ years of clinical experience (supervision experience strongly preferred)
  • Strong leadership, crisis management, and communication skills
  • Commitment to student wellness and diversity
