Lutheran Hospital’s 2B Adult Psychiatry Unit is part of the Acute Adult Behavioral Health Center and provides around-the-clock care for adult and older adult patients with acute behavioral, emotional and/or psychiatric disorders who require close supervision, ongoing assessment and/or intensive treatment. As Nursing Department Assistant, you will be facilitating this goal by creating a safe and healing environment, providing for patients' activities of daily living, performing various support tasks, documenting patient condition and transporting patients and errands as directed.
Additionally, the Cleveland Clinic system provides nurses with many professional development resources, including further education, eligibility for tuition reimbursement to become an RN and online/in-person courses to enhance their skills.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Provide for patients’ daily living activities.
- Responsible for transporting visitors and patients via wheelchair, cart or bed.
- Practice injury prevention.
- Maintain established levels of supplies.
- Ensure safety of self and patient when transporting or transferring patients.
- Perform other transportation functions as required, including but not limited to delivery of patient specimens, medical records and patient care equipment.
- Collaborate with members of the health care team to promote the delivery of patient care and overall functioning of unit.
- Maintain, clean and adjust department equipment including wheelchairs as needed.
- Observe and report changes in the patient’s condition on an ongoing basis.
- Give or assist with hygiene/care.
- Document in the patient record reflecting the care provided.
- Keep patient areas neat and uncluttered.
- High School Diploma/GED
- Critical thinking, customer service and multi-task skills
- Health care, hospital or outpatient experience
- Experience with behavioral health or mental illness patients
Physical Requirements:
- Requires full range of body motion including handling and frequent patient lifting, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
- Requires frequent standing, walking, bending/stooping, kneeling, reaching and squatting.
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
- Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
- Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
