Responsibilities
The EHR Specialist II supports the system optimization, workflow enhancements, and documentation compliance within the organization’s EHR system. This role focuses on day-to-day EHR support, form and template builds, targeted training, and reporting. The position works closely with clinical teams, Compliance, EHR administrators, and IT staff to ensure efficient and effective use of the EHR. Additional responsibilities include:
- Collaborate with clinical staff to build, test, and implement EHR forms, templates, and workflows that improve documentation accuracy and efficiency.
- Provide frontline end-user support for documentation and workflow issues; escalate advance functional matters.
- Evaluate and investigate front-end/user interface issues and route system-level or integration-related concerns appropriately.
- Support organization-wide initiatives by gathering feedback, testing enhancements, and supporting rollouts.
- Support compliance initiatives with adherence to HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and organizational policies during documentation of processes.
- Deliver targeted training sessions for new hires and existing staff on documentation standards, workflow updates, and system enhancements.
- Assist Compliance Department with routine documentation audits to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance.
- Generate and review operational and clinical reports to monitor performance and data quality; refer advanced analytics needs onto manager.
- Participate in EHR upgrade testing, workflow redesign projects, and form revision initiatives.
- Serve as a liaison between frontline users and technical teams to resolve issues and enhance functionality.
- Contribute to policy and procedure development related to EHR use and data handling.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education
- High school diploma or equivalency required.
- Associate or bachelor degree in Health Information Management, Health Informatics, or a related healthcare/IT field preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 – 5 years of experience in EHR support, health information, or clinical documentation.
- Experience in end-user training, workflow analysis, and documentation improvement.
Knowledge/Skills:
- Basic understanding of HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and clinical documentation standards.
- Detail oriented, self-directed, and skill at cross-departmental collaboration.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Mandatory Reporter of Child/Dependent Adult Abuse Certification or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire and every three (3) years thereafter required.
- RHIT or RHIA credential preferred.
