Job Summary

The Department of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training is seeking an Admissions Counselor for the Doctor of Physical Therapy ( DPT ) program. This position plays an essential role as a member of the DPT admissions team, helping to facilitate and optimize the overall admissions process. Responsibilities include participating in recruitment activities, advising prospective students on pre-requisite requirements and the application process for the DPT program, and onboarding students admitted to the program. This person will demonstrate knowledge and expertise related to the DPT hybrid pathway, while also supporting admissions activities for the Salt Lake City and St. George residential pathways. The position has the flexibility for both remote and in-person work.

The Department of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training is home to three different degree offerings: a Doctor of Physical Therapy, a PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences, and a Master in Athletic Training. The Doctor of Physical Therapy program has three pathways, Salt Lake City residential, St. George residential, and hybrid, allowing students to earn their degree from anywhere in Utah and across the nation. The Department of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training is located within the College of Health and is part of the University of Utah Health Sciences Center.

100 % remote or possibly split time between remote and in-person in SLC depending on candidate.

Duties involve travel to in-state and out-of-state locations.

Responsibilities

Develops and participates in a DPT recruiting plan in coordination with the Admissions Committee and Admissions Counselors.

Facilitates in-person and virtual information sessions and tours for prospective students.

Meets individually with prospective students to advise on DPT prerequisite requirements, application requirements, and other academic-related issues.

Engages with and educates undergraduate advisors, locally and nationally, about the University of Utah DPT program, admissions requirements, and how students can prepare to be a competitive candidate for the program.

Develops and maintains admissions related website content and promotional materials.

Facilitates the DPT admissions and application process in PTCAS including application screening, application review, and applicant scoring.

Coordinates with graduate admissions to ensure students are completing University of Utah graduate admissions requirements.

Assists with the coordination of the department admissions committee including scheduling meetings, creating meeting agenda, taking minutes.

Communicates regularly with admitted students about University of Utah graduate school application, new student events, submission of clinical requirements, and other onboarding requirements.

Participates in the planning and implementation of new student events.

Compiles admissions data and statistical reports.

Participates in department and university committees.

Duties involve travel to in-state and out-of-state locations.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).

2 years’ of related experience.

Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills

Preferences

Experience working with online learners and hybrid education.

Experience in higher education admissions and recruiting.
