Location: Hackettstown, NJ (Warren County)

Schedule: Full-time: Tuesday-Saturday (4:00pm-12:00am)

About Our Program:

Easterseals, a national nonprofit, has supported individuals with disabilities for over 50 years. Its Mental Health Residential Services delivers self-maintenance, medication education, and/or skill development for people with serious mental illness.

What You’ll Do:

The Residential Counselor supports the group home residents with daily living activities and delivers high quality services that will help consumers achieve measurable outcomes in accordance with Individual Rehabilitation Plans (IRP).

Key responsibilities include:

  • Support consumers in achieving personal care goals and addressing ongoing challenges.
  • Educate consumers on medications, track logs, and conduct monthly audits.
  • Coordinate services based on individual needs.
  • Transports consumers using the company van as needed.
  • Deliver high-quality care in line with Individual Rehabilitation Plans (IRP).
  • Accurately document services within required timeframes using electronic health records.

Who You Are:

  • Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in mental health, psychology, sociology, or social work, human services or a related field from an accredited college or university OR
  • A combination of one (1) or more years’ of college, plus related life or work experience equal to four (4) years OR
  • High school diploma or GED plus four (4) years of related work or life experience required.
  • Requirements: Possess a valid driver’s license & acceptable driving record.
  • Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.

Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.
  • Provide personal care and support to individuals in assisted living, nursing homes, or group home settings.
  • Monitor vital signs and report any changes in residents' health status to the appropriate staff.
  • Administer medications as prescribed and maintain accurate records using EMR systems.
  • Engage residents in meaningful activities that promote social interaction and cognitive stimulation, particularly for those with Alzheimer's or dementia.
  • Implement behavior management strategies to support residents' emotional and behavioral needs.
  • Maintain a clean and safe living environment by performing light housekeeping duties as needed.
  • Drive residents to appointments or community activities when required.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, families, and social workers to create individualized care plans.

Experience

  • Previous experience in senior care, long-term care, or home & community care is preferred.
  • Familiarity with caregiving techniques for individuals with disabilities or developmental challenges is essential.
  • Experience using Hoyer lifts for resident transfers is a plus.
  • Knowledge of first aid procedures and emergency response protocols is beneficial.
