Department Overview
The OHSU Digestive Health Center offers patients an interdisciplinary team approach to the prevention, detection, and treatment of digestive disorders. Our teams blend clinical expertise with research advances to achieve the best possible care and outcomes. The team includes patients, their referring physicians, and a wide range of OHSU specialists. This position will spend time at OHSU and Orenco Station in Hillsboro.

Function/Duties of Position
We are seeking a clinic RN Coordinator that provides professional, comprehensive nursing care and coordination for this complex surgical patient population. The RN Coordinator will provide care coordination, assessment and triage, medication management and clinical support to the surgery faculty providers in the clinic setting. With faculty support, the RN coordinator will require independent critical decision making skills to assess complex patient population.
Outpatient Clinical Care
- The RN Coordinator collaborates with other members of the team to ensure that patient flow is expedited during clinical practice sessions
- Coordinates and implements initiation of treatment plan of care
- The RN Coordinator ensures that Provider orders that result from the new patient visit are recorded and executed. S/he also works to ensure that laboratory and other diagnostic findings are available to clinicians in a timely fashion after tests are performed. S/he tracks the post visit flow information to ensure that plans of care are executed in a timely fashion
- Triages and responds or refers inquiries appropriately. Recognizes and reports specific physical and emotional conditions/needs/concerns of the patients to appropriate members of the health care team. Alerts Providers to unusual observations of patients to facilitate immediate attention
- Triages all urgent patient calls; triages Provider calls and assists with communication when necessary. Uses standing orders to manage patient care when appropriate
- Triage result pools and assists with follow-up and treatment plans
- Clarifies and accurately executes provider orders, per established protocol
- Recognizes and effectively responds to emergencies. Speaks with Providers directly in all emergency situations.
- Assesses patient/family status and needs both actual and potential according to established standards.
- Assists with appropriate program placement if needed.
- Acts as a patient advocate, preserving basic patients and family rights.
- Demonstrates knowledge of practice specific standards of care in actual performance.
- Recognizes ethical issues and takes appropriate action in the provision of care
- Maintains current knowledge of pharmacology and competency in modes of administration.
Required Qualifications
- At least 1-2 years of nursing experience inpatient with a complex medical focus, or in ambulatory or com munity-based setting working with chronically ill or medically complex
- BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date.
- ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date.
- Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
- Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
- BLS at time of hire and must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
- BLS must not expire during orientation
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Gastroenterology nursing is preferred
- Complex GI therapeutic procedural care coordination experience preferred
Additional Details
Length of Orientation – Experienced Nurse
- External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.
- Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Specialty Fellowship/Fellowship Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for 3 days-26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply.
