JOB TITLE: Family Counselor (Full Time)
DEPARTMENT: Family Resource Center
REPORT TO: Director of Family Services
SUMMARY
Provide trauma-informed care and support counseling to individuals, couples, children, families, and groups dealing with issues that affect their emotions, mental health, and well-being. Counselors should have the ability and skills to engage a diverse population using a client-centered approach, including the “wellness” model, which highlights and encourages the client’s strengths.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
To work with individuals, groups, children, and families to improve their equilibrium and daily functioning.
To engage and support clients as they discuss disturbing emotions and experiences.
To work on debilitating issues not limited to substance abuse, life cycle, anger, depression, relationships, LGBTQ, stress, suicide, violence, etc.
To conduct psychosocial assessments and help clients define goals, mutually develop treatment/service plans, and evaluate client progress.
To provide crisis intervention services as needed.
To develop and apply appropriate treatment modalities that address clients’ presenting issues.
Case management -Refer clients to appropriate treatment, support, psychologists, and other services.
To apply a holistic (mind and body) approach that assists with the healing process.
To maintain clients’ case files and other records strictly per the agency’s policy, regulations, and procedures.
Must adhere to HIPAA and comply with the NASW Code of Ethics.
To coordinate treatment planning and maintain ongoing contact with collaterals for continuing care of clients.
To actively participate in ongoing training to meet all licensing requirements and credentialing policies.
Qualifications & Experiences:
MSW, LSW, LCSW, LPC or a related degree (must have no restrictions on current license).
Have the ability to work with an underserved, diverse population.
Preference for individuals who are bilingual in English/Spanish.
Capability to work as a team member and independently and maintain a positive and respectful attitude.
Have strong analytical and strategic problem-solving skills.
Must have experience in providing individual and family counseling, case management, and advocacy.
Have excellent communication and organizational skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office- not limited to Word, Excel, etc.
Have a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance coverage.
Must complete all required background checks, including civil, criminal, and motor vehicle background checks and fingerprinting as required.
