Summary:
The purpose of this role is to connect Recovery Court participants and community members with resources to support and promote their recovery journey. The CPSS should be able to draw upon personal life experience in his/her work with clients and feel comfortable with the self-disclosure of some aspects of those experiences with mental health issues, substance use issues, and/or treatment and recovery, while maintaining appropriate boundaries in an effort to connect them with recovery support services. Interactions with clients are supportive, informational encounters that introduce treatment and recovery services, social support services, and connection to these services if the client desires. Building relationships and rapport are the primary purposes of interactions with clients. Interactions with clients should be tailored and responsive to the needs of the individual and may include passive support through listening and reflecting or active support through connection to resources such as housing and transportation, development of Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) plans, and assistance with advocacy needs.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities include:
" Provide peer support services to Recovery Court participants and individuals seeking assistance through the Recovery Connect program
" Serve as a referral source for peer support services for local health, treatment, and other community resource providers
" Assist with case management and care plan development with clients participating in the Recovery Court and Recovery Connect program
" Assist Opioid Settlement Coordinator with daily tracking of performance metrics and monthly reporting for Recovery Court and the Recovery Connect program
" Participate in ongoing community outreach efforts to raise awareness about Recovery Connect and help connect those in need of recovery services to the appropriate resources. Outreach may include but is not limited to staffing information tables at community events and at local service agencies; serving on local coalitions, taskforces and collaboratives; and doing presentations to community groups.
Recovery Court Specific Responsibilities:
" Serve as a Certified Peer Support Specialist to the Cleveland County Recovery Court Program and the Recovery Connect Program, which provides community support to/for individuals, caregivers, local providers and community partners seeking OUD/SUD recovery support services.
PORT and Recovery Connect Specific Responsibilities:
" Serve as a Peer Support Specialist and referral source for the local Post Overdose Response Team (PORT), staffed by EMS Community Paramedics, to help connect individuals who experience an OUD/SUD overdose to recovery support services.
" Serve as a Peer Support Specialist to the Recovery Connect program, which provides community support to/for individuals, caregivers, local providers and community partners seeking OUD/SUD recovery support services.

Education & Experience:
High school or equivalent GED AND Currently credentialed as a North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist (NCCPSS) with two (2) years of demonstrated, sustained recovery AND one (1) year experience working as a NCCPSS in a professional capacity.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
" Knowledge of and commitment to harm reduction principles.
" Strong knowledge of treatment, recovery, healthcare, employment and social service resources available in Cleveland County
" Knowledge of syringe service laws, wellness recovery action plans, case management and medications for opioid use disorder
" Basic knowledge of personal safety standards, safety techniques and safety principles that guide one-on-one visits with clients
" Strong ability to work independently as well as with a team
" Ability to flex work schedule as needed, including evenings and weekends upon occasion
" Must maintain professional boundaries while working with sensitive issues and must be comfortable working with diverse groups of people using a harm reduction framework
" Must be comfortable with public speaking and facilitating group presentations and training
" Must be able to build rapport with clients and individuals with OUD/SUD while also maintaining a professional demeanor with community partners and professionals
" Strong written and oral communication skills.
" Basic computer skills
" Must maintain a high level of confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA guidelines and regulations

License & Certifications:
Certified as a North Carolina Peer Support Specialist (NCCPSS) required upon hire
Valid driver's license and insurable driver's record
CPR Certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire
Work Location:
This role must work from the location identified at the time of hire with work travel required as needed. Any change of work location, even on a short-term or interim basis, must be reviewed by the Supervisor and HR for approval.

In the event that the State Emergency Response Team is activated, this position will be required to participate if deemed necessary.
