Job Title
Enrollment Counselor

Position Summary
Responsible for the recruitment and admission of first-year, transfer, graduate, and non-traditional students to Texas Wesleyan University. Primary duties include visiting schools, colleges, universities, and/or organizations, meeting with prospective students, evaluating admission applications, and assisting with special programs and projects as assigned. This position works closely with prospective new students in the support of the transition to Texas Wesleyan University.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serve as the liaison between Texas Wesleyan University and assigned schools, colleges, universities, and organizations to recruit new students to the University. Develop recruitment plans for assigned schools, colleges, and/or campuses to recruit prospective students through college fairs and programs, schools, community colleges, businesses, churches, and other professional contacts both locally and regionally.
  • Communicate current information on the application and enrollment policies and procedures for students interested in attending Texas Wesleyan while maintaining effective communication with prospective students and applicants regarding their admission and enrollment status.
  • Review, process, and evaluate applications and transcripts for admission and academic scholarship recommendations.
  • Provide support for campus tours, open houses, orientations, and other recruitment events on campus for prospective students and their families. Assist in the planning and development for on-campus admissions programs. Support the enrollment team in giving admissions-related presentations to tour groups, school groups, and prospective students.
  • Assist with additional recruiting in the Undergraduate Admissions office as needed.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship within the Texas Wesleyan community. Connect with students, faculty, staff, and organizations for Texas Wesleyan to be known and accessible on each assigned campus or organization.
  • Provide weekly, monthly, and year-end reports on territory activity, including prospect and applicant reports.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Undergraduate Admissions Office.

Education, Certifications and/or Licenses
  • A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university.
  • Liberal Arts background is preferred but not required.

Experience

Previous admissions and/or recruitment-related experience preferred but not required.

  • Demonstrated administrative ability to plan and execute programs and activities, to secure cooperation from individuals and organizations, and to coordinate the activities of such individuals and organizations.
  • Proficiency with an integrated administrative system and current software programs.
  • Ability to demonstrate a cooperative attitude while working with a diverse student population.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks while maintaining a high attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills to work productively & efficiently to meet multiple deadlines.

Skills:
Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Good communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to write standard correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to current and prospective students and University employees.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
