Summary of PositionA Peer Recovery Coach is an individual in recovery from behavioral health conditions,
including mental health or substance use disorders, who use their lived experience to support others seeking recovery. A Nexus Peer Recovery Coach provides support across a broad spectrum of client needs to assist individuals in self-directed goal development, mindful relapse prevention planning, and navigating community resources. Recovery Coaches provide vital, direct support and advocacy for clients to improve quality of life, increase engagement with behavioral health services, and increase sustainable self-management. And above all, a Peer Recovery Coach's primary role is to serve as a positive role model to others in recovery by demonstrating successful, personal recovery and the healthy use of coping skills.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Peer Support Services
· Build relationships with clients that uphold the dynamic of a peer-to peer relationship
· Model healthy recovery behaviors by presenting personal recovery experiences in a positive and informative manner, without glorifying problem experiences
· Encourage client engagement in their own recovery and strengthen a personal sense of purpose
· Assist clients in developing and achieving self-directed recovery goals and mindful relapse prevention strategies
· Utilize a strengths-based approach to motivate positive change
· Seek opportunities to foster optimism and bolster hope
· Maintain appropriate boundaries with clients relative to the Peer Support Specialist paraprofessional role
· Respond to requests from Nexus staff for peer support for a client, including timely outreach to the client, and follow-up with staff on the outcome of the request
· Attend regular Nexus Team meetings to discuss client cases and provide feedback
· Attend twice-monthly clinical supervision meetings
Outreach Services
· Initiate non-threatening and engaging rapport to build positive connections that motivate individuals towards positive change
· Engage or re-engage with community members to encourage their future involvement in recovery care and their persistent efforts in the recovery process
· Provide prevention and intervention services in a variety of community settings and create a safe environment to address and discuss behavioral health issues
· Inform community members about the extensive array of resources at their disposal, empowering them to make informed choices for their continued well-being
Documentation
· Ensure that client contact is documented in a timely manner as required by the Nexus Independent Contractor Agreement
· Write and submit chart notes and invoices in a timely manner as required by the Nexus Independent Contractor Agreement
Education Requirements
· High School Diploma or GED—required
Experience
· Actively engaged in his/her own recovery program with a minimum of one (1) year demonstrated personal recovery and sustained abstinence from alcohol and/or drug use with no relapses—required
· Previous work in the Behavioral Healthcare Industry—preferred
Licenses and Certifications
· CCAR Peer Recovery Coach certification or equivalent—required
· Willing and able to obtain Colorado Providers Association (COPA) credentials, or equivalent, within six (6) months of contract execution—required
Driving Requirements
· Valid driver’s license
· Proof of motor vehicle insurance
· No more than two moving violations in the past three years
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Effective oral and written communication skills
· Cultural competency and trauma-informed care competencies
· Knowledge of local resources and system navigation
· Advocacy and community capacity building skills
· Ability to identify and access community resources
· Ability to use and understand health information technology
Job Type: Contract
Pay: From $20.00 per hour
