Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Substance Abuse Counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in addiction counseling and mental health support, demonstrating a commitment to helping individuals overcome substance use disorders. This role involves providing therapeutic support, conducting assessments, and developing individualized treatment plans to promote recovery and well-being.
Duties
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to evaluate the severity of substance use disorders and related mental health issues.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on patient needs, utilizing evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing.
- Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions to support patients in their recovery journey.
- Provide crisis intervention and management for patients experiencing acute distress or emergencies.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care, including social workers, medical professionals, and community resources.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations, including intake forms, progress notes, and treatment plans.
- Engage in ongoing research and data collection to enhance treatment effectiveness and contribute to program development.
- Support families through child & family counseling sessions, addressing the impact of substance use on family dynamics.
- Offer home & community care services as needed, ensuring continuity of care for patients transitioning from hospital settings.
- Stay informed about developments in addiction medicine and behavioral health to provide the highest quality of care.
Experience
Candidates should have a background that includes:
- Experience in psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and behavioral therapy.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, medical records management, and CPT coding.
- Proficiency in diagnostic evaluation techniques for substance use disorders.
- Knowledge of ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding systems is preferred.
- Experience in case management and patient care within various settings such as hospitals or community organizations.
- A strong understanding of PTSD care principles and techniques.
