GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

The Medical Social Worker assists with development of plans of care and services to patients, families and the community, for the social, emotional, psychological, economic, and environmental issues related to the entire continuum Of care. Provides support and guidance to Health Services staff members related to Social Services issues.

Medical Social Worker's Knowledge, Skills and Responsibilities:

Working knowledge of current Medicare/Medicaid guidelines
Community agencies/resources, financial programs, i.e., AFDC/SSI Familiar with principles of growth and development

Skills:

Experience with crisis intervention
Experience with largely pediatric populations
Ability to work with multidisciplinary staff
Previous experience in a managed care environment preferred

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelors or Masters Degree in Social Work from an accredited school of Social Work; Masters Degree preferred.
A minimum of three years experience in medical social work, or relevant clinical areas is preferred.
Experience as a counselor/therapist is desirable.
Experience With cross-cultural differences is desirable.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS.

• Must have a current Social Worker Licensure in the State Of Texas.
