Atrium Health Levine Children's Teen Health Connection has a position available for a Doctoral-Level Psychologist on the Independent Psychological Assessment (IPA) team. An IPA is a comprehensive, service-independent assessment provided for youth, ages 5 to 17, who enter child welfare custody in Mecklenburg County.

The goal of the IPA is to identify youth needs and facilitate early access to appropriate services. The IPA Psychologist assesses and makes recommendations across a number of domains (i.e., educational, social, living environment, mental and physical health), targeting the youth's wellbeing, safety, and permanency simultaneously. The assessment consists of a clinical interview with the youth, administration of standardized measures, an extensive review of records, and collateral interviews. The IPA Psychologist utilizes this information to write a final narrative report, which includes clinical impressions, a DSM 5 mental health diagnosis, if applicable, and individualized recommendations. The IPA Psychologist then holds a debrief session to review the report with the youth, legal guardian, and other supportive persons in the youth's life. For this position, experience in working with youth who have been exposed to trauma is preferred.

Teen Health Connection is an integrated healthcarepractice that provides medical and behavioral healthcare and prevention and health education services for adolescents primarily between the ages 11 to 25.Teen Health Connection worksin exclusive collaboration with Atrium Health to empower all teens to be healthy, safe and successful.

Job Summary

This is a senior level position that provides behavioral health services to patients in a community mental health setting. The primary responsibilities consist of psychological assessment for diagnostic purposes and direct treatment by individual, family and group psychotherapy.

Essential Functions

  • Demonstrates the ability to conduct assessments based on clinical interview, presenting information and clinical standards of program.
  • Demonstrates ability to formulate an appropriate diagnosis using standards established in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.
  • Writes appropriate treatment plans according to patient diagnosis, age and clinical presentation.
  • Collaborates with appropriate guardians to insure effective service delivery.
  • Provides clinical supervision of Psychologist I, predoctoral interns and/or graduate practicum students in the practice of psychology.
  • Conducts forensic evaluations and provides court testimony as an expert witness when directed.
  • Selects, administers, and interprets psychological instruments, including a written report on psychological evaluation.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of various treatment modalities and theoretical applications based on current clinical standards.
  • Writes appropriate discharge plans based on individual needs of client and follows through with termination process.
  • Manages clients in crisis utilizing appropriate skills and assessment.

Physical Requirements

Works in a patient care area with potentially combative or self-destructive patients. Each employee has the responsibility to work in a safe manner. Work requires walking, standing, lifting, reaching, and handling of charts and supplies.

Education, Experience And Certifications

Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology from, an APA approved training program required; license eligible or currently licensed as a Licensed Practicing Psychologist from the N.C. State Board of Examiners of Practicing Psychologists required. BLS required per policy guidelines.

Pay Range

$50.05 - $75.10
