The Department of Veterans Affairs Southeast Louisiana Healthcare System (SLVHCS) is seeking a full-time Staff Psychologist (Suicide Prevention Coordinator) for the Community Based Outpatient Clinic in New Orleans, LA.   The Staff Psychologist (Suicide Prevention Coordinator) function as the coordinator for care of veterans at suicide risk and an advisor to the Mental Health Chief, facility leadership, program managers, and staff concerning suicide prevention strategies for individual patients and for the facility and veteran community as a whole. Provides screening, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of depression and anxiety-related disorders, as well as other mental health conditions, with an emphasis on the application of time-limited, evidence-based approaches. Performs capacity/competency assessments when there are questions about a patient's ability to make medical decisions, perform other specific functions, or live independently. Provides behavioral medicine interventions to manage pain, disability, address sleep problems, facilitate weight loss, promote smoking cessation, and enhance medical compliance.     Work Schedule:    Monday-Friday, 7:30 am- 4:00 pm. subject to change based on the needs of the facility. (Preferred) • Providing evidence-based care for a variety of diagnoses in a general mental health setting. (Preferred) • Must be highly motivated, team-oriented, and committed to the care and good health of our Veterans.
