StatusFull time, Starting Salary $67,142 - $75,214: Commensurate with Qualifications and ExperiencePosition Summary InformationPosition Accountabilities and Essential FunctionsThe successful candidate must demonstrate experience, skills, and commitment to fostering an environment of belonging, diversity, equity and inclusion in students, faculty and staff.Position SummaryThe Counselor will develop an inclusive and equitable program to support student mental health and wellness that aligns with Delta's commitment to whole-person development and student success. Working closely with the Director of Student Support, this position will provide campus counseling and manage the operations to ensure access to mental health support for students.This position will work to develop and deliver remote and face-to-face mental health services, oversee mental health interns, manage confidential mental health records, develop departmental policies and procedures, and educate the campus community regarding student mental health needs and best practices. This position will also network with regional providers to create a referral system for students with acute mental health or clinical intervention needs.In compliance with the ethical guidelines of the American Counselor Association the Counselor provides direct support services to students in a comprehensive retention effort involving assessment and Student Support System. Activities include career exploration, decision-making and personal counseling within a learning centered environment focusing on Delta College's strategic initiatives. The Counselor will exhibit superior customer service skills and professionalism in their daily interaction and communication with students and colleagues.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:GENERAL OFFICE AND TEAM CONTRIBUTIONS
  • Embed the College's mission and values throughout all responsibilities and work; and focus on student success as the guiding principle to informed decision-making.
  • Understand, develop, and provide an environment that supports diversity, equity, and inclusion, and incorporates cultural competency in the workplace.
  • Contribute to positive teamwork environment.
DIRECT STUDENT SERVICE AND SUPPORT
  • Provides individual and group counseling services to any interested student; is accessible and available to students to respond to their questions/concerns; identifies and recommends additional non- academic supports needed for marginalized populations on campus.
  • Develops, plans, implements, monitors and assesses student mental health initiatives across the campus and online.
  • Provides assistance in managing crisis situations and responding to campus trauma (such as death of a student or faculty member).
  • Establishes and maintains the platform through which tele-mental health services are provided; administrates an online appointment request and tracking system for both in-person and tele-health settings.
  • Provide clinical supervision, related documentation, and administrative oversight over counseling interns on an ongoing basis; works to build capacity of counseling availability and access for students.
  • Responds to reports of student mental health issues, working with students to find resources that will help them persist and complete coursework.
  • Design and deliver student success workshops focused on retention topics such as time management, test anxiety, stress management, and overcoming anxiety.
  • Provide Career counseling for undecided students, utilizing appropriate assessment tools to support career exploration and decision-making
  • Collaborates and communicates with existing internal and external support mechanisms to aid students.
  • Promotes and provides mental health training to faculty and staff.
  • Maintain confidential files to track and monitor student wellness and mental health concerns.
  • Coordinates mental health awareness and/or substance use awareness and harm reduction efforts for the campus community; facilitates trainings to educate and empower students and staff.
  • Actively participates in local and regional collaborative related to community mental health, substance use, poverty, etc.
  • Implements the values of equity and inclusion in the development and delivery of service.
  • Collects and analyzes data; prepares periodic summaries and evaluative reports or documents, as required.
  • Serves on committees and other designated ad hoc, college standing committees, and professional organizations.
  • Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, strategic and service initiatives. Adheres to the organization's policies and procedures, and compliance guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
PROFESSIONAL OVERSIGHT and MAINTENANCE
  • Maintain open and positive lines of communication with all members of the Delta College community. Maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of policies, procedures, best practices and research trends related to counseling for student success.
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive records related to student information, including individual and group session notes and student's intervention plans.
  • Maintain knowledge of all Delta programs for purpose of career exploration and assessment.
  • Participate in the process of regularly assessing and evaluating departmental practices and policies relative to student persistence and success.
  • Utilize Career Discovery resources, computerized career assessment instruments and interpret results.
  • Maintain internal CRM communications.
  • Maintain high-levels of student satisfaction as measured by student retention, student satisfaction surveys, student graduation rates and graduation surveys.
  • Follow campus and departmental procedures; per approval, make appropriate on and off campus referrals
Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree or equivalent knowledge and skills. Major(s) required: Counseling/Social Work. Licensed professional counselor/social worker.
  • 1 - 3 years of position related experience.
  • Computer skills including online mental health platforms, Titanium, virtual meeting applications, word processing and data entry, creation and management of spreadsheets, ability to use and/or learn Colleague, Maxient and/or other Enrollment Management software.
  • Solution orientated; with strong problem solving and time management skills.
  • Demonstrate a strong attention to detail and flexibility in adapting to change.
  • Customer Focus: dedicated to student development and success, establish and maintain effective relationships with students and earn their trust and respect, exceptional counseling, coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to work with cross-departmental functions in a collaborative manner to resolve student challenges.
  • Self-motivated, organized, innovative, solution seeking, with a desire to encourage others to succeed.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; excellent customer service; exceptional organization and time management skills.
  • Skilled at connecting and building rapport with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Skilled in navigating difficult and emotionally sensitive conversations with others.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to follow directions, complete tasks accurately, and accept supervisory input.
  • Ability to identify potential risks to individual student health and wellness as well as campus safety and to respond with appropriate urgency or emergency intervention when needed
Additional Experiences Considered
  • Ability to supervise Master's level counseling interns
