- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations to assess the mental health needs of patients with behavioral health needs.
- Formulate accurate diagnoses based on assessment findings and evidence-based criteria.
- Collaborate with the clinical team to develop and implement treatment and crisis stabilization plans.
- Prescribe appropriate psychotropic medications to address patients' mental health symptoms and conditions.
- Monitor medication efficacy, side effects, and overall treatment progress.
- Adjust medication regimens as needed to optimize patient outcomes.
- Observe Merakey policies on prescription renewals, telephone and electronic scripts, etc.
- Work closely with the treatment team, including therapists, peer specialists, psychiatric rehabilitation specialists, care navigators, nurses, and case managers, to develop integrated treatment plans for patients.
- Participate in interdisciplinary meetings to discuss patient progress and develop comprehensive care strategies.
- Document at least one contact with consumers’ PCP (e.g., ongoing, at annual intervals, PRN).
- Conduct regular case conferences on applicable patients.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical documentation using the BHUCC's electronic health records system.
- Ensure compliance with documentation standards and regulatory requirements.
- Provide patients and their families with information about prescribed medications, potential side effects, and expected outcomes.
- Obtain informed consent for treatment, explaining risks, benefits, and alternatives.
- Participate in peer reviews and quality improvement activities to enhance the delivery of psychiatric care.

- Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited medical school.
- Board certification or eligibility in Psychiatry.
- Valid state medical license and DEA registration for prescribing controlled substances.
- Experience in crisis intervention, emergency psychiatry, or urgent care settings is preferred.
- Knowledge of evidence-based psychiatric treatments and interventions.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong communication and empathy in working with patients and their families.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems and healthcare technology.
