Animal Care & Enrichment Coordinator - Oklahoma City, OK
Department: Intake
Location: Oklahoma City, OK
Immediate Supervisor: Manager, Intake
Status: Full-time/non-exempt
Pay: $17/hr
Purpose of Position:
To provide humane and proper care to the organization’s animals being housed on-site and
to additionally provide enrichment to increase the adoptability of each animal. Additionally, to
provide excellent customer service to anyone visiting the program location.
Duties & Responsibilities:
In accordance with organizational policies, duties include but are not limited to:
- Follow company policies and adhere to all standards and guidelines.
- Responsible for the care of all animals at the intake facility.
- Responsible for training new staff and volunteers on how to handle an animal safely and pod protocols (including cleaning).
- Evaluation and a bi-weekly report on the care and cleaning of your pods/intake.
- Follow established disease control protocols.
- Restock areas with supplies and equipment.
- Maintain equipment in working condition and report equipment or supply needs to the Supervisor.
- Maintain work and general areas in an organized manner.
- Lead for daily enrichment exercises for animals implementing new activities, assisting in new ideas to assist with socialization and manners in our program animals in conjunction with Behavior Coordinator.
- Train ACAs on the new enrichment and conduct follow-ups.
- Clean and sanitize animal housing.
- Provide food and fresh water.
- Assist foster parents with animal drop-offs and pickups.
- Assist with general questions and requests from the public.
- Inventory management.
- Build relationships with volunteers, fosters, and staff.
- Identify volunteer needs and make recommendations and requests for volunteer help at the intake facility and be the point of contact for volunteers.
- Coordinate, schedule, and/or perform, as needed, transport of intake facility program pets to other locations, including but not limited to, the adoption center and internal vet clinics.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
- Work independently but also as a team.
- Strong customer service skills.

- Comfortable with all breeds, sizes, and temperaments.
- Must be able to work with volunteers with a positive and welcoming attitude.
- Ability to identify signs of illness, disease, or injuries.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills, a professional, tactful, mature and sincere attitude, and be able to represent the mission, goals and the policies of OK Humane in a creative, credible and energetic manner.
- Ability to follow directions and multitask.
- Must be able to work maturely and respectfully with diverse groups of people.
- Must be organized, flexible, and adjust to rapid, changing needs.
- Must be knowledgeable and comfortable with computer systems used in operations and have basic computer skills, including database skills.
- Knowledge of and commitment to animal welfare issues is strongly preferred.
- Must be able to work holidays and weekends as needed.
Physical Requirements:
- Work may be performed in a kennel/shelter setting and/or outdoors.
- Must be able to work standing or sitting for 8 or more hours.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the day with help.
- Must be able to bend and kneel repeatedly.
- Must have a good range of motion in joints, especially wrist, knees, and elbows.
- Must have a good range of motion in your back, for instance, twisting.
- Must be able to work in potentially extreme environmental temperatures.
- Must be able to use a ladder and or step stool.
- Must possess excellent hand-eye coordination.
- Must possess an acceptable degree of dexterity in hands and fingers. Exposure to disinfectant solutions when cleaning.
- Subject to animal bites and scratches while handling animals of questionable
temperament.
