Recreation Therapist Position

Roxbury is currently hiring a full-time Recreation Therapist to work with our patients on our adult and adolescent psychiatric units. This position qualifies for a $2,500 sign-on bonus! The Recreation Therapist assesses patients leisure and recreational development needs, providing age and developmentally-appropriate therapy groups and establishing behavioral treatment goals in a manner consistent with the philosophy and objectives of Roxbury Treatment Center.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for developing, planning and managing all recreational activities that aid in improving the physical, cognitive, emotional and social functioning of patients ranging from adolescents through geriatric.
  • Activities will involve working closely with patients, family members and treatment team professionals in providing individual and group-based interventions to address therapeutic treatment goals for patients.

Located in Shippensburg, PA, our 112-bed behavioral health facility offers acute psychiatric, detoxification, and rehabilitation services for adults as well as an adolescent inpatient psychiatric program for youth ages 13-17. We also have two substance use disorder outpatient offices in Carlisle and Chambersburg. Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Recreation Therapy or in a Creative Art Therapy field (i.e., Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Recreation Therapy, Dance Therapy or Psychodrama); or a major in a related therapeutic discipline including occupational therapy. Masters degree, preferred.
  • Experience: Two (2) years of experience developing and implementing recreational treatment plans and assessments for patients; knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness, preferred.
