About Job

Shade Tree Academy is seeking a trauma-informed and mission-driven Behavioral Health Interventionist Supervisor (BHI) to guide school-wide behavioral and emotional support systems for students impacted by foster care and complex trauma. This critical leadership role involves developing individualized interventions, supporting high-acuity needs, and ensuring daily program consistency in a highly structured, therapeutic learning environment.

The BHI Supervisor will supervise and train Behavioral Health Technicians, paraprofessionals, interns, and teaching staff in co-regulation, de-escalation, trauma-informed instruction, and emotional resilience. Additionally, the BHI will play a key role in maintaining program fidelity—ensuring that daily routines (including Safe Spot resets, calming strategies, rhythmic activities, and social-emotional learning) are implemented with consistency and care.

The ideal candidate is collaborative, compassionate, systems-oriented, and committed to building a safe, regulated, and equitable school climate.

Key Responsibilities:

Behavior Planning & Clinical Expertise

  • Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and develop individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) using trauma-informed, evidence-based practices.
  • Provide direct support for students in crisis, including in-the-moment de-escalation and post-incident follow-up.
  • Participate in program/curriculum development
  • Facilitate caregiver trainings
  • Participate in the development of policy and procedural manuals.
  • Teach and model calming techniques and regulation strategies for both students and staff.
  • Align behavioral interventions with students' Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) goals and integrate SEL targets into BIPs and daily routines.
  • Monitor intervention effectiveness using behavior data, journal entries, and self-monitoring tools completed by students.

Incident & Crisis Management

  • Lead incident debriefs with staff and students, emphasizing safety, dignity, and reflective learning.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of behavioral incidents, interventions, and follow-up actions.
  • Identify trends in behavior data to proactively adjust safety plans, staff training, and support needs.

Team Supervision & Staff Development

  • Supervise and mentor Behavioral Health Technicians and paraprofessionals in trauma-informed techniques, behavior management, and student engagement.
  • Provide coaching and live modeling during key parts of the school day, including regulation routines and microdosing check-ins.
  • Design and lead training on calming techniques, rhythmic and patterned activities, SEL integration, and staff self-care.
  • Support all staff in co-regulation, emotional attunement, and maintaining a consistent trauma-informed environment.

Program Fidelity & Routine Oversight

  • Oversee the daily trauma-informed schedule, ensuring consistent implementation of:
  • Morning Routine
  • Weekly SEL themes and breathing/calming techniques
  • Journal prompts, body scans, and role-play activities
  • Structured group activities incorporating music, movement, rhythm and games
  • Group mindfulness, movement, and growth mindset sessions
  • Coordinate with interns and staff to ensure all therapeutic routines and expectations are prepared and delivered effectively.
  • Monitor and support academic integration by ensuring that emotional readiness activities (e.g., regulation, journaling) are prepared and delivered effectively.

Behavioral Tracking & Data Management

  • Maintain systems for logging student behaviors, emotional triggers, calming techniques used, and SEL skill development.
  • Support staff in tracking academic participation, emotional check-ins, and reflective journaling.
  • Use collected data to inform behavior plans, goal-setting, and progress reviews.

Collaboration & Family Engagement

  • Serve as a liaison between students, families, educational staff, and mental health professionals to ensure the team is aligned with shared goals of supporting students in building resiliency and increasing academic success.
  • Participate in IEPs, Child & Family Team (CFT) meetings, and student support meetings offering behavioral insights to strengthen team-based planning.
  • Partner with families to support at-home regulation strategies to reinforce consistent expectations and extend trauma informed care beyond the school setting.
  • Reinforce school wide behavior plans by aligning home and school approaches, sharing tools and techniques with caregivers, and promoting consistency across environments.

Leadership & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead weekly staff meetings to review student progress, troubleshoot challenges, and reinforce trauma-informed strategies.
  • Stay current on best practices in trauma-informed education, behavior science, and restorative discipline.
  • Foster a culture of emotional safety, reflection, and professional growth among all team members.
