About Our Agency
The South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (BHDD) was established April 28, 2025. The Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (OIDD) is a part of the state's behavioral health and developmental disabilities agency, providing services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental health conditions and substance use disorders through a wholistic, streamlined and coordinated approach. OIDD assists in the planning, developing, coordinating, and funding services for South Carolinians with the severe, lifelong disabilities of:
  • intellectual disability and related disabilities
  • autism spectrum disorder
  • traumatic brain injury
  • spinal cord injury and similar disability

Job Responsibilities
This position supports the eligibility determination process by assisting with the follow-up of pending referrals, confirming receipt of intake packets through initial calls, responding to questions from individuals and families, and serving as a collaborative team member by providing backup support.
  • Assists in processing and the follow-up of pending eligibility requests for referrals to determine Eligibility.
  • Makes Initial calls for all internal Intake referrals to confirm receipt of intake packet and answer any questions individuals and families may have about Intake.
  • Participates as a team member and provide back-up assistance to other staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A high school diploma and relevant program experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Human services background and understanding of disabilities. Work effectively with families/parents and medical/school/contracted psychologists. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to organize work tasks and to set timelines as well as follow up as needed. Effective computer skills and the ability to learn complex information management systems such as CDSS and Therap.

All new employees who are healthcare providers are required to provide documentation of immunity or be immunized against measles, mumps, rubella, pertussis, Varicella and Hepatitis B prior to beginning employment.
