About Job

Full-time School Counselor position SY 2025-26

Saint Peter's Prep invites applications for a full-time Guidance Counselor in our Guidance and College Counseling Department.

This posting is for one (1) full-time guidance position with an approximate student caseload of 125 students.  Preference will be given to candidates with a degree in counseling.  Previous counseling experience at the high school level,  familiarity with Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) is a plus. Guidance Counselors are required to meet students in groups of 14-16 once every eight-day cycle of the school calendar in a classroom setting, as well as meeting with students one-on-one. Counselors assist freshmen through senior students with their high school journey, including academic rigor and expectations, finding and utilizing resources, as well as working on topics related to personal and social development.  The successful counselor will be able to work individually with students and their parents, lead a classroom-sized group through our guidance curriculum, and work collaboratively with the entire guidance and college counseling department, as well as the Saint Peter’s Prep faculty and administration. In our guidance model, each school counselor is paired with a college counselor, who takes the lead in helping students and their families navigate the college search and application process.

Founded in 1872, Saint Peter’s Prep is a Catholic, Jesuit high school of approximately 870 young men in downtown Jersey City, NJ, with a highly diverse population.

Saint Peter’s Prep does not discriminate on the basis of gender, race, ethnic origin or sexual orientation in any of its employment policies.  The school welcomes Catholics and non-Catholics who share in the educational objectives of our total program to apply.
