Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW) – Case Manager
Location: Edmonds, WA
Job Type: Contract (13 weeks)
Schedule: Day Shift, 5x8-hour shifts (8:00 AM – 4:30 PM)

Job Overview:
We are seeking a Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW) with at least 2 years of experience in acute hospital case management. This role supports patients primarily in the medical-surgical acute care setting, with potential float to other hospital units including Emergency Department, ICU, NICU, and Labor & Delivery/Mother-Baby units. The position requires strong skills in care coordination, discharge planning, and utilization review, along with proficiency in Epic charting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop individualized care plans
- Coordinate services across multiple disciplines and community resources
- Manage concurrent reviews, continued stay reviews, and retrospective reviews
- Apply regulatory knowledge including CMS, CPT coding, DRG, HEDIS, HIPAA, ICD-10, OSHA, Joint Commission standards, and Workers' Compensation requirements
- Utilize InterQual and Milliman guidelines to determine medical necessity
- Provide discharge planning and facilitate smooth transitions of care
- Document care delivery thoroughly in Epic electronic health records
- Support a patient census averaging 18-20 per day
- Float as needed to other hospital units within the system
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW)
- Current Washington State LMSW license (or equivalent post-MSW clinical license)
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in acute care hospital case management
- Proficient in Epic electronic medical record system
- Knowledge of community programs including Medicaid and Medicare
- Certifications: BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) required
Preferred Experience:
- Utilization review and appeals/denials management
- Experience with Emergency Department, ICU, NICU, or Labor & Delivery/Mother-Baby units
- Familiarity with behavioral health assessments, geriatrics, and chronic disease management
- Understanding of NASW Code of Ethics and regulatory compliance

Duties
- Conduct assessments to identify client needs and develop personalized service plans
- Provide crisis intervention and management to clients facing immediate challenges
- Offer addiction counseling and support for individuals struggling with substance use disorders
- Facilitate access to resources such as Section 8 housing assistance and childcare services
- Mentor clients in developing coping strategies and life skills through motivational interviewing techniques
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care for clients
- Supervise interns or junior staff members, providing guidance and support in their professional development
- Advocate for clients within the child welfare system, ensuring their rights and needs are met
- Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions and progress in compliance with Medicare regulations
Experience
Candidates should have a background in social work or a related field, with experience that may include:
- Crisis intervention and management skills, particularly in high-stress situations
- Knowledge of behavioral health practices and principles
- Familiarity with workforce development programs aimed at enhancing employability for clients
- Experience working within the child welfare system, including understanding of relevant policies and procedures
- Supervising experience is preferred, as well as mentoring skills to guide less experienced staff or interns
