Jasper County Charter System Behavior Interventionist
DESCRIPTION: The Behavior Interventionist supports students in Pre-K through 5th grade by implementing strategies and interventions that promote positive behavior and social-emotional growth. This role collaborates with school staff, students, and families to design and implement behavior support plans, monitor student progress, and build teacher capacity for managing behavior in the classroom. The Behavior Interventionist is a critical member of the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) team and ensures proactive, inclusive, and equitable practices across all elementary settings.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, social work, or related field
- Experience working with children exhibiting challenging behaviors
- Knowledge of behavior management strategies and interventions
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families
- Deep understanding of the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in behavior analysis, counseling, special education, or related field
- Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or certification in applied behavior analysis (ABA)
- Experience in elementary education or early childhood settings
- Crisis prevention/intervention training (e.g., CPI, Handle with Care)
- Experience developing and monitoring Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIESRESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with teachers and school teams to assess student behavior and develop individualized plans
- Conduct classroom observations and behavior assessments (e.g., FBA)
- Support the implementation and fidelity of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)
- Model and coach evidence-based behavioral strategies for teachers and staff
- Serve as a liaison between schools and families to address behavior-related concerns
- Monitor student progress and adjust interventions as needed
- Facilitate professional learning on classroom behavior management and social-emotional learning
- Support school-wide behavior systems such as Leader in Me
- Maintain documentation and comply with confidentiality and ethical standards
- Assist with crisis response and de-escalation when necessary
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities:
Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Frequent bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling and repetitive fine motor activities. Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting. Must be able to respond quickly in physically active or crisis situations. Vision, hearing, and verbal communication are essential functions of this position.
REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Teaching and Learning
SALARY: Salary is based on Jasper County Charter System's Administrative Salary Scale. Employee benefits include health insurance, flexible benefits and retirement plans.
