About Job

As a Family Preservation Social Worker with Orchards Children’s Services, you will use leadership skills to see that research based intervention plans are developed and implemented in the family’s home or community. While providing intensive home-based services you will collaborate with Children’s Protective Services, Foster Care, and/or Probate and Circuit Courts in identifying the family’s needs, strengths, and then developing goals designed to enhance family functioning. Using respect and empathy, you’ll deliver child-centered, family-focused and strength based services directly to youth and families, many with trauma histories. While spearheading the change process, you will see that the focus is on building stronger, safer and more independent families and children. Reignite your passion for helping families in need by using your education and experience to make a meaningful difference in your community.

YOUR OPPORTUNITY

As a Family Preservation Social Worker with Orchards Children’s Services, you will coordinate, conduct and document assessments, screenings and child and family meetings in homes or community settings. You will use a strength-based approach to inspire family members to execute the individualized behaviorally specific safety and treatment. At times, you will use your rapport and motivation skills to help parents fully engage with the support offered. You will meet with families around their schedules, so some days may begin when school starts, while other days may end around dinner time. You will adjust your work day and week accordingly. Participation in non-traditional working hours with the families provides you with the opportunity to provide immediate support to a child and family in crisis, in order to mitigate the long term risk of harm.

YOUR GROWTH

Orchards Children’s Services supports your success at each step. We ensure manageable caseloads to enable you as a Social Worker to have a deeper and more creative engagement with your clients. We provide ongoing training and career development opportunities that include trauma training, training through the MDHHS CWTI respective to specific programs, Motivational Interviewing, and Community Resiliency Model training. In addition, you will engage in individual face-to-face supervision, as well as supportive group engagement with your team members.

As a Child Welfare Agency, Orchards Children’s Services provides endless opportunities for social workers to build a long and varied career path. If you have the desire to gain additional skills, you could grow into supervisory or program management roles. And there is plenty of room for advancement, both in the county and, because Orchards Children’s Services engages with children and families throughout the State of Michigan.

YOUR REWARDS

Orchards Children’s Services offers a fair market rate salary, an exceptional team-based environment, and a benefits package that includes employer-paid healthcare, dental, and vision. Orchards Children’s Services provides the opportunity to make an important difference in your community.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

A Master degree in social work is highly preferred. If you have a Bachelor degree in social work, sociology, psychology, family ecology, family studies, or family and/or child development, plus experience working with children and families, we encourage you to apply today.
