The GSEP Community Engagement Specialist (CES) is responsible for identifying community relationships for recruitment opportunities, managing, and following up with contacts to convert potential new girl/adult members and volunteer leads, and start new and grow existing troops within a defined geographic area. The overall goals of this position is to introduce Girl Scouting to their community, maintain effective and lasting relationships with schools, community leaders, volunteers, businesses, faith-based organizations and more, ensuring a strategic presence throughout their region.

The Community Engagement Specialist works to increase volunteer satisfaction resulting in retention for service unit and troop volunteers. The CES has excellent conflict management skills to secure volunteers, works with Council, and follows the strategy & plan, all while supporting the Council’s core goals and designated territory goals.

The Community Engagement Specialist uses designated funds to provide girls in underserved communities access to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience by securing funded troop locations, supporting funded troops, and converting funded troops to hybrid and eventually traditional troops that are supported by Service Units.

The Community Engagement Specialist partners with other GSEP staff to meet goals within regions through relationships with schools, faith-based institutions, and other community partners, resulting in a pipeline for establishing Girl Scout relationships.

Essential Qualifications for this position:

  • Strong communication and presentation skills including the ability to articulate the mission and goals of GSEP to the membership and community
  • Strong interpersonal and motivation skills to inspire staff, volunteer and girls
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to take ownership and responsibility for all performance related goals
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and manage time effectively
  • Strong management and supervisory skills
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to make effective presentations
  • Excellent writing skills and experience preparing written materials for use by the public
  • Experience planning and coordinating activities for large numbers of diverse participants
  • Willing to work nights and weekends as necessary
  • Attention to detail; ability to anticipate next steps to provide full customer satisfaction
  • Highly proficient in using data to achieve goals, and think strategically
  • Follow prescribed cookbook method of operations
  • Understand the standard operating procedures to maximize the opportunity calendar within Salesforce to engage membership
  • Adept at conflict resolution and problem solving; takes initiative in solving problems
  • Able to learn, understand, and apply case management system in Salesforce
  • Calm demeanor: ability to handle stressful calls/situations and handle rejection from uninterested parties
  • Ability to understand and enforce council policies
  • Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Exceptional leadership skills; must be able to manage a team of field-based staff as well as work successfully with council teams and volunteers
  • Able to set short and long-term goals individually and working as a team
  • Able to learn new processes and ways of work quickly and efficiently
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work autonomously to complete projects as assigned
  • Ability to work cross-functionally to achieve council goals
  • Exercises good judgment and demonstrates initiative in solving problems
  • Ability to build, maintain and value good relationships with team, members, volunteers and community

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:


  • Passion for girl leadership and the Girl Scout mission
  • Knowledge of local schools and communities required
  • Spanish speaking preferred
  • Sales or recruitment experience and ambition preferred.
  • Adept at cold calls, tenacity, and resilience to close a sale.
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree, Sandler training preferred
  • Experience: 3-5 years of related experience
  • Strong computer user skills in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and applications such as Salesforce
  • Experience working with data
  • Passion for GS Mission and serve as a council ambassador
  • Commitment to GSEP Operational Core Values
  • Valid driver’s license, car, and proof of current insurance.
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 40 pounds, this position may require heavy lifting and physical activity in the form of packing and unpacking equipment.

Other:

  • Hours of Work: office and meeting participation as required during regular office hours (M-F; hybrid schedule), evening and weekend hours expected
  • This is a full-time position (35 hours/week)
  • Approximately 75% travel
  • Maintain Membership as a registered Girl Scout
