School Psychologist Job Description
Job Title: School Psychologist – Evaluation SpecialistReports to: Director of Special Education / Assistant Superintendent of Student ServicesFLSA Status: ExemptLocation: District-Wide
Position Summary:
The School Psychologist – Evaluation Specialist is responsible for conducting comprehensive psychoeducational assessments as part of the special education eligibility process. This position does not include counseling, behavioral intervention, or therapy services. The psychologist functions as a key member of the evaluation team, providing diagnostic information to support individualized educational planning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct a wide range of standardized psychological assessments to evaluate students’ cognitive, academic, social-emotional, and adaptive functioning.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to contribute to comprehensive special education evaluations, reevaluations, and initial referrals.
- Analyze assessment data and integrate findings from other professionals to prepare clear, comprehensive, and legally defensible written reports.
- Participate in eligibility determination meetings, presenting assessment results and providing diagnostic clarification in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Serve as the district’s qualified examiner for intellectual, developmental, and processing assessments.
- Maintain documentation in compliance with all timelines and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with staff and families to explain evaluation procedures, consent processes, and findings.
- Stay current with assessment tools, evaluation practices, and relevant laws and policies governing special education.
Qualifications:
- Master’s, Specialist, or Doctoral degree in School Psychology from an accredited institution.
- Current and valid state certification or licensure as a School Psychologist.
- Demonstrated expertise in administering and interpreting a broad array of psychological and educational assessments (e.g., WISC-V, WIAT-4, BASC-3, Vineland-3, CTONI-2).
- Strong knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and other applicable federal and state special education regulations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to manage multiple evaluations simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience conducting evaluations in diverse educational settings (e.g., early childhood, multilingual learners, students with complex needs).
- Familiarity with digital assessment platforms and online scoring systems.
- Experience collaborating within multi-disciplinary teams including SLPs, OTs, PTs, and special educators.

Work Year:
Full-time, 183 Days/Annually, Salary in Accordance with the Lawrence Teachers’ Union Local 1019, American Federation of Teachers and the Lawrence Public Schools.
