Position Summary:
The Substance Abuse Counselor will provide direct counseling, case management, and support services to individuals in a residential treatment program. This role focuses on facilitating recovery from substance use disorders through evidence-based interventions, education, and relapse prevention strategies, while promoting overall mental, emotional, and physical well-being. The counselor will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure each client receives individualized, holistic care. Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct intake assessments.
  • Develop, implement, and update individualized treatment plans in collaboration with clients and the clinical team.
  • Facilitate individual, group, counseling sessions utilizing evidence-based practices (e.g., CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing).
  • Provide psychoeducation on addiction, recovery, relapse prevention, coping skills, and healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Monitor client progress, document services, and maintain accurate, timely clinical records in compliance with program, state, and federal standards.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings to review cases and coordinate care.
  • Assist clients in developing aftercare plans and connect them with community resources, outpatient programs, and support groups (e.g., NA/AA, SMART Recovery).
  • Respond to client crises with appropriate de-escalation, intervention, and referral.
  • Uphold confidentiality, professional boundaries, and ethical standards at all times.
  • Support a safe, respectful, and therapeutic residential environment.

Qualifications:

  • Current certification or licensure as a Substance Abuse Counselor (e.g., CADC, LADC, LCAS, or state equivalent) required.
  • Experience working in substance use disorder treatment, preferably in a residential or inpatient setting.
  • Knowledge of ASAM criteria and familiarity with trauma-informed care principles.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and crisis intervention skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage a diverse caseload.
  • Proficiency in documentation, electronic health records, and basic computer skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with co-occurring disorder treatment.
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish/English or other languages).
  • Familiarity with culturally responsive care.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $28.00 - $30.00 per hour
