ABOUT ESPERANZA ACADEMY

Esperanza means hope. Esperanza Academy Charter School (EACS), located in the Hunting Park section of North Philadelphia, is dedicated to serving the students within its community. We believe education can be a vehicle for social and economic advancement, especially in underserved communities. This core belief drives our relentless pursuit to become the best educational option for all students in the Philadelphia area.

Our strong track record of academic excellence and impact within our community makes us stand out. The Academy has 11th-grade test scores above the city of Philadelphia's average, and value-added math and reading proficiency growth is among the highest in Pennsylvania. Students graduate at a rate exceeding 90% and drop out at only 1%. For 9 out of 11 years, the Academy has been awarded a silver or bronze medal rating in the US News ranking of Best High Schools in the country.

In the fall of 2025, we will open a brand-new elementary school building, marking the completion of our expansion to a full K-12 program serving over 2,400 students. This growth will make Esperanza Academy the second-largest single charter school in Philadelphia, reinforcing our commitment to delivering high-quality education to even more students in our city.

THE OPPORTUNITY

At Esperanza Academy Charter School (EACS), we keep students at the center of our work. We empower students through transformative experiences that support their social-emotional well-being, academic success, and development as whole individuals.

Esperanza Academy is seeking a mission-driven, compassionate, and experienced School Psychologist to provide comprehensive psychological services that support the academic, emotional, and behavioral success of all students. This full-time position offers the opportunity to make a profound impact in a diverse, multilingual school community committed to holistic student development.

As a School Psychologist, you will play a vital role in evaluating students for special education services, delivering culturally responsive counseling, leading crisis intervention, and collaborating with staff and families to ensure student success. Spanish language fluency is required to meet the needs of our bilingual student population.

We are committed to supporting and developing our staff through meaningful professional growth opportunities, ongoing collaboration, and a culture that values innovation and continuous learning. This full-time position for the 2025–2026 school year offers a unique opportunity to join a mission-driven school community dedicated to supporting students beyond academics—emotionally, socially, and behaviorally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations for students being referred for special education or re-evaluation services.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to interpret data, determine eligibility, and develop evidence-based recommendations.
  • Provide bilingual individual and group counseling that supports students' mental health, behavior, and academic development.
  • Deliver culturally responsive crisis intervention services and risk assessments as needed.
  • Consult regularly with educators, administrators, and families to implement behavior interventions and student supports.
  • Facilitate IEP, MTSS, and Student Support Team meetings, ensuring psychological input informs decision-making.
  • Maintain thorough and confidential student records following professional standards and school policies.
  • Offer professional development to staff on trauma-informed practices, SEL strategies, and behavioral supports.
  • Help lead school-wide efforts around restorative practices, PBIS, and social-emotional learning.
  • Connect families with outside agencies and community-based mental health services when needed.
  • Remain up to date on best practices, legal requirements, and tools related to school psychology.

What you will bring:

  • A deep belief in Esperanza Academy’s mission and the power of equitable access to mental health support for all students.
  • A Master’s Degree in Psychology from an accredited institution. (Official transcripts showing the degree conferred are required before the start date.)
  • Valid Pennsylvania Psychologist licensure.
  • PA certification: School Psychologist PK–12 (CSPG 81), or willingness to obtain it.
  • Current FBI, PA Criminal, and Child Abuse background checks completed within the last 12 months.
  • Experience working in an urban school or charter school setting is preferred.
  • Spanish fluency is prefered but not required.
