About Job

Clara’s Hope is a small nonprofit organization based in Fenton, MI whose mission is to help families have success in foster care and adoption. We are not a child placing agency, but rather a supplemental support to families with children placed in their home through foster care or adoption. A full-time social worker is needed to provide home- and community-based support to foster and adoptive families in Genesee and Livingston Counties. Joining our team will allow you to make a difference in the lives of children and families in our community for generations to come.

Employee will determine with supervisor a standard work schedule (for example - five 8 hours days or four 10 hour days). There is a need for 1-2 evenings and one weekend day per month on average for home visits and family events throughout the year.

Statement of Tasks:

Ongoing Foster/Adoptive Family Support

  • Home- and Community-Based Support – home visits throughout Genesee and Livingston Counties, attend court/school meetings as family support, ongoing whole family support to identify areas of need, provide education re: trauma, attachment and other topics important to foster/adoptive families, and offer crisis management as needed
  • Wrap Around Family Support – ensure volunteer services are offered as needed/available
  • Family Events – attend and support engagement with and between families
  • Donation Management - process and inventory all tangible donations for families
  • Transportation - occasional transportation of parents, children, or volunteers

Liaison for Service Provision

  • Build and maintain relationships with child welfare agencies in Genesee and Livingston Counties
  • Attend community collaboratives, as needed, to maintain relationships and network
  • Partner with agencies, MARE, AFPRR, PARC, and area professionals for recruitment, training, and other educational and awareness activities

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license and use of personal vehicle for business
  • Able to pass criminal and central registry clearances
  • Available 1-2 evenings/week and one weekend day a month.
  • Knowledge of foster care, trauma and attachment preferred, but not required
