About the Role

We’re looking for a warm, outgoing, and art-minded individual to join Shutter & Shadow Studio as our Studio Curator & Community Liaison.

Located along the scenic riverfront inside Janesville’s historic Old Towne Mall, our studio is a vibrant, creative space in the heart of downtown.

This hybrid role is ideal for someone who thrives on engaging with people, celebrating the beauty of art and photography, and keeping the studio inviting for guests. It’s a perfect fit for a retired arts patron or anyone with flexible availability who wants to immerse themselves in the local arts community.

Primary Responsibilities

• Studio Presentation & Care (5 hrs/week, paid hourly):
• Keep the studio clean, organized, and guest-ready (light cleaning, dusting, tidying reception, restocking refreshments, and ensuring props/backdrops are in order).
• Maintain a welcoming, gallery-like atmosphere.
• Community Engagement & Bookings (Commission-based):
• Greet visitors, talk about our photography services, and represent the studio in a friendly and professional manner.
• Promote studio sessions, event rentals, and artist pop-up opportunities.
• Encourage bookings from visitors, community contacts, and local arts networks.
• Earn commission for every confirmed booking generated.

Compensation

• Hourly Pay: 5 hours/week at a set hourly rate for studio upkeep.
• Commission: Paid for each confirmed booking you bring in (either a flat amount per session or a percentage of the booking fee).

• Passionate about the arts and eager to help others experience them.
• Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
• Well-connected or active in local creative communities is a plus.

Schedule

• Guaranteed 5 hours/week for studio upkeep (flexible within mall open hours).
• Additional time on-site is at your discretion, with the opportunity to earn commissions for bookings made.
