Job Title: CAREER SPECIALIST
Description: The Career Specialist works closely with the Job Developer, placing STEP-UP participants in subsidized and unsubsidized employment and other work experience activities. The Career Specialist identifies and removes barriers to employment and prepares the participant for permanent job placement. The Career Specialist monitors the participant’s engagement and attendance to ensure their welfare-to-work hourly requirement is achieved. The Career Specialist facilitates job readiness, job search, and interviewing workshops. They assist in resume writing and partner with the Job Developer to locate permanent job opportunities and provide overall support throughout the participant’s time in the STEP-UP Program.
Qualifications: - Associates or equivalent (Work and/or life experience)
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience or equivalent in providing job counseling, job development, and job retention services to disadvantaged, hard-to-serve populations and Welfare-to-Work (WTW) recipients
- Experience developing Individual Employment Plans (IEPs) and case management
- Ability to facilitate job readiness workshops, create resumes, and job development
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a strong problem-solver
- Ability to interact well with people from diverse economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds
- Ability to meet deadlines, work fast-paced, and follow through reliably on assigned tasks
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
- Fluent in MS Office Suite and associated software, including Internet search tools
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a high
participant turnover while meeting deadlines
- Ability to perform all essential functions as described within what would be considered
reasonable accommodation
- The ability to sit for prolonged periods with repetitive hand movements using a computer
keyboard in the performance of daily office activities
- Valid CA Driver’s License with a good driving record; must be able to drive for this position
Responsibilities:- Conduct orientation and intake assessments for participants
- Connects work experience participants (WEX) with established short-term subsidized work
experience positions
- Provides ongoing case management to support the participant throughout their short-term work
experience or subsidized employment assignment
- Develops employer contacts with private and public sectors
- Ability to ascertain employer needs and advise of agency’s employment services
- Skilled in resume writing, interviewing skills, job search activities (online and in-person),
coaching, presentation, and job retention
- Assists with the identification and removal of employment and self-sufficiency barriers
- Assesses and evaluates participants to determine appropriate job interest and placement Matches
participant skills, aptitude, and abilities to prospective employment openings and makes referrals
to secure job placement
- Maintains contact with employers and participants following placement to ensure job stability
- Collects employment verification letters and attendance records, performs necessary post-
placement and post-exit follow-up to ensure participant job retention
- Prepares and provides attendance records, payroll, etc., for submission to the proper agency
- Maintains up-to-date participant file content for accuracy and completeness
- Regularly reviews and prepares timesheets and accurate reports for submission to the county
- Ability to run an employment lab location, including opening and closing procedures
- Ability to run job fairs Other duties as assigned
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $28.00 per hour
