Duties
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a license to practice medicine in Nebraska and completion of an accredited training program in general psychiatry acceptable by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology for entrance into its examination or board certification in general psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Active licensure is required for continued employment.
Other: Will complete four to eight weeks of on-the-job training. Must submit to background security check. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the pre-employment medical examination and a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid Nebraska Department of Correctional Services' Pre-service Training Program.

Duties
- Provide direct patient care to NDCS patients on the mental health case load and to advise on the treatment of unusual or difficult cases.
- Responsible for diagnosis of illness and the determination and administration of treatment to be used on patients. This includes the initiation of the involuntary medication process.
- Administers or directs the administration of treatments and advanced techniques.
- Conducts psychotherapeutic interviews and individual and group therapy and evaluates the progress of treatment.
- Conducts and/or participates in staff conferences for the discussion of the diagnosis, treatment, parole, and discharge of patients.
- Develops short and long-range program and treatment goals and objectives.
- May participate in a program of formal instruction in modern psychiatric principles and practices for resident physicians and supervises resident physicians in the treatment of patients.
