Description
The Chatham County Detention Center immediately needs a Corrections Counselor I. If you have a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, or a related field, plus one (1) year of counseling experience, consider applying.
Examples of Duties
In this role, you
- Counsel inmates and document records according to the Standard Operating Procedures of the Chatham County Detention Center.
- Perform work that requires a great degree of confidentiality.
- Respond to detainee requests and staff referrals.
- Maintain daily activity logs.
- Present accurate and reliable monthly reports.
- Work with the unique problems of an inmate population to provide follow-up services and support, including addiction and recovery issues, multi-cultural awareness, and multi-group theories.
- Arrange for detainees to have contact with Parole, Probation, DFCS, Court Administrator, and other government agencies.
- Use your interpersonal skills to interact with difficult clients.
- May encounter crises such as threats of suicide, homicide, and physical harm.
- Use your customer service skills as you answer inquiries from the public by phone and in person.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, or a related field; and
- At least one (1) year of counseling experience; or
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
During emergencies and disasters affecting Chatham County, you may be required to report to work as part of a disaster operations team.
In accordance with the Department of Transportation, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) holders and those employed in safety-sensitive positions are subject to random drug testing.
Candidates with direct and relevant experience may receive an offer of up to 10% above the minimum salary that is posted, reflecting their exceptional qualifications.
