About Job

Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) for New Growth Behavioral Health is responsible for client screening, intake, orientation, the administration of substance abuse assessment instruments, recovery and relapse prevention planning, substance abuse treatment (facilitating substance use groups and performing individual counseling under close supervision of a licensed abuse treatment practitioner/LSATP), case management, substance abuse or dependence crisis intervention, client education, referral activities, record keeping, and consultation with other professionals. CSACs will also provide supervision to CSAC-As only. On a daily basis, 95.0% of the services provided are to be in the form of direct involvement and training with clients. Remaining hours will consist of conducting service coordination and administrative duties. This position develops relationships between administrative staff, employees, and clients in order to provide quality work ethics and growth within agency staff and clients. In addition, this position provides overall support to New Growth Behavioral Health general operations and program areas (SA evaluations). This position interfaces regularly with Licensed Clinical Director, Clinical Manager, Compliance Director, Program Director, and Human Resource Director.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLILTIES:

· Screening clients to determine eligibility and appropriateness for admission to a particular program.

· Intake of clients by performing the administrative and initial assessment tasks necessary for admission to a program.

· Orientation of new clients to program's rules, goals, procedures, services, costs, and the rights of the client (complete intake packets).

· Assessment of client's strengths, weaknesses, problems, and needs for the development of a treatment plan.

· Treatment planning with the client to identify and rank problems to be addressed, establish goals, and agree on treatment processes.

· Conducting individual and group sessions to assist patients in recognizing causal factors of substance abuse and in developing coping behaviors.

· Counseling the client utilizing specialized skills in both individual and group approaches to achieve treatment goals and objectives as well as assist them in recognizing problems related to substance abuse and in developing alternative behaviors.

· Case management activities that bring services, agencies, people, and resources together in a planned framework of action to achieve established goals.

· Crisis intervention responses to a client's needs during acute mental, emotional, or physical distress.

· Education of clients by providing information about drug abuse and available services and resources.

· Referral of clients in order to meet identified needs unable to be met by the counselor and assisting the client in effectively utilizing those resources.

· Reporting and charting information about a client's assessment, treatment plan, progress, discharge summaries, and other client-related data.

· Consultation with other professionals to assure comprehensive quality care for the client.

· Confers with patients, family members and others to gather information which may be of value to the treatment team; explains the program methods and objectives and obtains their cooperation in the treatment/rehabilitation process.

· Participates in case conferences with other members of the treatment team to provide input in developing a treatment plan and to make recommendations on its implementation.

· Performs follow-up activities for outpatients or continuing care patients in obtaining services such as support group counseling, halfway house counseling, vocational training, etc.

Participates in supervision to enhance clinical skills.

JOB REQUIRMENTS:

Certified Substance Abuse Counselors must be available for group 9am-3pm Monday-Friday.

Possess a valid driving license and maintain an acceptable driving record

Own and operate an insurable and registered vehicle

Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel

Ability to navigate through the world wide web / internet

Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:

Ability to communicate both written and verbal information in a clear, concise, and accurate manner.

Knowledge of treatment service plan development and implementation.

Knowledge of group dynamics.

Knowledge of report writing and other client documentation.

Establishes clear expectations and continuously measures performance.

The ability to work through stringent deadlines with acute attention to detail is required.

Maintains focus on priorities.

Self-starter with the ability to manage time effectively.

Knowledge of external communications and cultivation techniques are essential.

Knowledge of mental disorders, their symptoms, treatment, and social implications in relation to target population.

Knowledge of counseling and crisis interventions.

Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local guidelines and regulations and HIPAA requirements.

EDUCATIONS AND SPECIFICATIONS:

· Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in substance abuse, psychology, sociology, social work, rehabilitation, criminal justice or closely related areas.

· Must be registered with the Virginia Board of Counseling, Substance Abuse Professional Certification board - must be eligible to obtain within 90 days of employment.

· Experience working in a team environment with individuals who suffer from substance abuse.

· CPR/FIRST AID Certification

· De-escalation techniques (TOVA training)

Must have documented successful partnership cultivation experience and development

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 - $34.00 per hour
