About Job
Position Description
The Holistic Services Division of the Harris County Public Defender’s Office ("PDO") seeks to hire a licensed social worker to serve as a re-entry specialist ("specialist"). The PDO represents indigent clients who have been accused of misdemeanor and felony offenses in Harris County, and the Holistic Services Division aims to address collateral consequences and existing legal and non-legal issues in our clients' lives that drive them into the criminal justice system. We provide dignity and personalized attention to our clients in hopes of stabilizing their lives and reducing their chances of returning to the system. The specialist we seek to hire will identify client needs based on clients' stated desires, facilitate housing solutions, assist with access to government benefits, connect clients to medical providers needed for their continued care after incarceration, and work closely with attorneys and other holistic providers to coordinate clients' re-entry plans.
The specialist will produce written reentry plans, coordinate with applicable community resources, and maintain strong ties to community partners in the re-entry space. The specialist will assist with preparation of mitigation reports and investigations in support of clients' criminal cases, as needed. Applicants should have excellent writing, research, and communication skills, and they should have experience with re-entry services.
