About Job

Cabell Huntington Hospital is seeking a full-time Staff Counselor with our Counseling Center Department.

The Counseling/EAP Staff Counselor has a dual role within the Counseling Center, with half of his or her time dedicated to external referrals for counseling/therapy, and half of his or her time being dedicated to the work of EAP/SAP.

In serving counseling referrals, this position reports to the Counseling Center Manager, providing counseling services to individual adults, adolescents, and children, as well as couple and family therapy and group therapy. He or she also provides psychiatric intakes for new clients, arriving at accurate diagnoses, and keeping the psychiatric diagnoses updated. Additionally, this position provides other services appropriate to the counselor’s training and licensure and according to the goals of the Counseling Center and needs of the community. He or she is a team-player in the collegial and mutually supportive environment of the CHH Counseling Center. The individual in this role adds his or her unique knowledge, skills, and other abilities to the Center to enrich its diversity and depth, and to maintain the quality of service the community expects from the CHH Counseling Center.

In the EAP/SAP capacity, this position works under the supervision of the EAP Coordinator, and is responsible for assisting in the ongoing development and implementation of the hospital’s Employee Assistance Program. He or she is responsible to stay current on the laws, professional ethics and best practices of this specialized mental health field. The employee provides direct EAP services to the hospital and external contract holders. This position involves a duty to assist in the effective and confidential referral processes for hospital employees and their dependent family members including self-referrals, informal referrals, formal referrals, crisis referrals, and mandated referrals. This individual will make strides to obtain CEAP and AADC Certifications within the first 2 years on the job, and will thereafter be responsible to keep track of and meet all necessary requirements to maintain these certifications.
