Breastfeeding Peer Counselor
Peer Breastfeeding Counselor (Part-Time)
Location: Orange & Crawford Counties
Hours: Part-time, 14 hours/week
Blue River Services, Inc. is seeking a compassionate and supportive individual to provide breastfeeding education and support to prenatal and postpartum mothers. This role promotes breastfeeding as the natural and healthy way to feed infants, offering encouragement throughout a mother's breastfeeding journey.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide basic breastfeeding information and support within the Peer Counselor Scope of Practice
- Promote breastfeeding positively to community partners and all mothers (prenatal and postpartum)
- Offer continued encouragement and support, including leading or assisting with breastfeeding classes and support groups
- Attend peer counselor meetings, staff meetings, and breastfeeding workshops/conferences
- Support agency efforts during events like World Breastfeeding Week
- Refer mothers to the Lactation Consultant or Breastfeeding Coordinator when concerns arise outside of scope
Qualifications:
- Must be a current or past breastfeeding mother (within the last 5 years preferred)
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and vehicle insurance
