Job Overview:

As a Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Patient Care Coordinator, you will be responsible for providing support and coordination for patients requiring durable medical equipment. You will work closely with healthcare providers, patients, and insurance companies to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of DME products and services. Your primary goal will be to facilitate the process of obtaining, delivering, and maintaining medical equipment to meet the needs of patients and support their overall healthcare management.

Work Environment:

In an administrative and medical office setting with other administrative and clinician colleagues.

Responsibilities and Skills:

Patient Communication: Communicate with patients to understand their DME needs, educate them on available products and services, and provide support throughout the process.

Care Coordination: Collaborate with healthcare providers, including physicians, nurses, and therapists, to coordinate the prescription, documentation, and authorization process for DME.

Insurance Verification: Verify patients' insurance coverage and obtain necessary authorizations for DME products and services, ensuring compliance with insurance requirements.

Order Processing: Manage the ordering process for DME equipment, including entering orders, obtaining necessary documentation, and liaising with suppliers to ensure timely delivery.

Product Knowledge: Maintain a thorough understanding of available DME products, including their features, benefits, and usage instructions, to effectively guide patients in product selection.

Documentation and Compliance: Ensure accurate and complete documentation of patient information, orders, and communications while adhering to regulatory and compliance standards.

Patient Support: Provide ongoing support to patients, including troubleshooting equipment issues, coordinating repairs or replacements, and addressing any concerns or questions they may have.

Administrative Tasks: Perform various administrative duties such as maintaining patient records, preparing reports, and coordinating with billing and reimbursement departments.

Quality Assurance: Monitor the quality of DME products and services, address any quality issues, and seek opportunities for process improvement.

Education and Training: Educate patients and caregivers on the proper use, maintenance, and safety guidelines for DME equipment to ensure optimal outcomes and patient satisfaction.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a healthcare or medical equipment coordination role. At least 2 years REQUIRED.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology, insurance processes, and healthcare regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, healthcare professionals, and insurance representatives.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Proficiency in using computer applications and electronic health record systems.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Knowledge of durable medical equipment and related products is a plus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
