The Creswell Lab, part of the Psychology Department at the Dietrich College of CMU, is seeking a highly motivated, responsible, and professional research assistant needed to assist in all aspects of a large, federally-funded, longitudinal clinical trial examining responses to alcohol consumption and the development of alcohol use disorder (AUD). This is a part-time position in the Psychology Department at Carnegie Mellon University.
This position is ideal for individuals interested in gaining additional research experience before applying to graduate school in psychology.
Core responsibilities include:
  • Recruit and schedule research participants
  • Run community participants through sensitive research procedures (including alcohol administration protocols and structured clinical interviews to diagnose AUD; training will be provided)
  • Prepare materials for research studies, perform video and audio recording assessments, program ecological momentary assessment surveys and monitor incoming data
  • Train undergraduate research assistants, code video data using established coding systems (e.g., Ekman’s Facial Action Coding System; FACS; training will be provided)
  • Input data, analyze data, track participants for follow-up sessions, attend lab meetings, maintain lab rooms/supplies/equipment, and prepare manuscripts.
  • Helping with other lab studies and lab-related tasks will also be required.

Qualifications:
  • B.A. or B.S. in Psychology or a related field
  • Prior psychological research experience and knowledge of experimental methods in psychology
  • Excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, exemplary written and oral communication
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfort in interacting with diverse people in the community
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered

  • Candidates must be able to work evenings on weekdays and weekends.
