MedQuest Search Solutions, Inc., the nation's leading behavioral health executive search firm, is conducting a search for a Licensed Clinical Director (Residential Inpatient and Programs) for a luxury, evidence-based behavioral health facility in Greater San Franscisco, CA.
This is a unique and high-impact clinical leadership opportunity at one of the region’s most respected and long-standing substance use disorder treatment centers. The facility offers a full continuum of care—including detox, residential, and outpatient services—and is nationally recognized for its patient-centered approach, clinical sophistication, and serene, private setting.
The incoming Director will report directly to the CEO and oversee all clinical programming outside of outpatient services—including detox, residential treatment, and therapeutic tracks. This is a full-time, on-site position designed for a dynamic and mission-driven clinical leader eager to make a lasting mark through program development and leadership.
About the Role
This Director of Clinical Services position comes at a transformational time for the program. After a period of transition, the facility is seeking a strong clinical leader who can bring structure, cohesion, and evidence-based sophistication to the treatment team and clinical programming.
With approximately 12 FTEs reporting in (therapists, counselors, and clinical staff), this leader will set the tone for clinical excellence and help shape a culture rooted in accountability, compassion, and best practices.
A planned Assistant Clinical Director role is under consideration as part of the program’s future growth.
What You’ll Do:
As Director of Clinical Services, you will:
- Lead day-to-day clinical operations and strategic direction for detox and residential programming.
- Supervise, coach, and develop a high-performing team of licensed clinicians and support staff.
- Design and refine clinical tracks and therapeutic interventions grounded in evidence-based practices.
- Monitor program fidelity, ensure consistency of therapeutic approaches, and provide corrective guidance.
- Oversee compliance with regulatory standards (Joint Commission, CMS, state licensing).
- Collaborate with nursing, medical, operations, and business development leadership.
- Lead crisis intervention efforts, participate in care planning, and support escalated clinical needs.
- Represent the clinical program in leadership meetings and contribute to organizational strategy.
Schedule:
- Monday–Friday, on-site (typically 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM)
- Scenic residential campus in Northern California
- On-call rotation as needed
What We’re Looking For:
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field
- Must be Licensed in California (LCSW, LMFT, LPCC, PsyD, or PhD)
- Eligibility to supervise strongly preferred (licensed for at least 2 years)
- Leadership experience in a behavioral health or substance use treatment setting
- Proven ability to implement and oversee evidence-based programming
- Knowledge of Joint Commission, CMS, and state-level regulatory standards
- Exceptional interpersonal and team-building skills
- Passion for clinical excellence, program growth, and organizational impact
- Passion for working in substance abuse disorder preferred
