JOB SUMMARY
The Systems Technician I works under the supervision of the Director of Information Technology and is responsible for the proper installation, maintenance and repair of network equipment and computer systems. This position will also assist residents with approved installations, repairs to electronic equipment, or troubleshooting service and connectivity issues both in-person or via telephone.
The Systems Technician may be assigned to any number of technology maintenance specialties, including troubleshooting and fixing power supplies, power feeds, and battery backups for alarms and devices.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Receives and/or creates work orders and is dispatched to resolve a variety of telephone, television, computer and Internet as well as varied electronic issues. Documents all work performed along with any applicable fees and submits for billing.
- Ensures that a task is completed and that the resident knows the status of repairs to their residences. Treats residents' spaces with care and works in a clean, respectful, and service-minded way.
- Supports the Information Technology team in the development, implementation, installation, and on-going maintenance and repair of TV, internet, and telephone systems. Recommends changes to the systems and services to optimize their functions and/or to reduce costs.
- Helps to ensure Williamsburg Landing's telephone system is functioning properly. Assists employees and residents with questions regarding telephone operation and makes repairs as needed.
- Checks buildings regularly, identifies improperly operating equipment or components, and implements/installs repair or replacement plans. Notifies appropriate managers of observed problems with buildings, systems, and equipment.
- Maintains appropriate inventory of tools, and equipment in good working order and minimizes waste. Requests additional materials on an as-needed basis.
- Evaluates work processes and methods; submits recommendations for continuous quality improvement.
- As assigned, performs the other duties in support of the IT function:
- Maintains access badge system, emergency call system, department records, billing tracking and submission, telephone system, PON OLT and/or ONT and fiber distribution, TV distribution, AV systems
- Troubleshoots and repairs low voltage electrical and electronic systems. Develops specific corrective plans for malfunctioning systems and equipment.
- Installs and maintains emergency alarm systems, equipment and devices. Periodically tests personal emergency transmitters (also called PETs or E-Call) and trains new residents on their operation.
- Complies with all Williamsburg Landing policies and procedures including those addressing attendance, dress, safety, and personal hygiene.
- Maintains positive interaction with residents, guests, and other Williamsburg Landing employees.
- Assumes responsibility for own professional development including meeting mandated standards for continuing education and staying abreast of developments in the field.
- May serve as a member of disaster and emergency response teams.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 2-3 years of experience with network installations, telephone systems, alarm systems or electronics
- Associates Degree in related field, preferred
- CompTIA A+ or Network+ (or comparable) certifications, preferred
- Valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver's license required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Working knowledge of tools, equipment, and devices used in low-voltage system maintenance and repair
- Proficient in diagnosing and resolving mechanical, electrical, and network-related issues across a variety of systems
- Skilled in the responsible use of hand-held communication and diagnostic devices
- Ability to work as a team or independently and be self-motivated and goal oriented with shared accountability
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to maintain professional working relationships and work respectfully with employees, residents, family members, and visitors including older adults who may have varying physical and cognitive abilities
- Ability to demonstrate sound professional judgment and decision-making in both routine and urgent situations
- Ability to work a 3-4 week on-call rotation and to work non-standard hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT
- Must be capable of performing physically demanding tasks such as stooping, bending, reaching, climbing, crawling, and other forms of manual labor for extended periods
- Able to safely and effectively work overhead from ladders for prolonged durations
- Comfortable working full shifts outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures
- Must be able to work at elevated heights, including rooftops
- Regularly able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds safely
