- Meets and greets traveling public, welcoming them to Louisiana.
- Listens to questions and provides appropriate answers and counsel on how visitors may spend their time in Louisiana.
- Encourages visitors to spend more time in Louisiana by suggesting alternative routes and activities.
- Answers inquiries, in person, by telephone, email, or other means, about what there is to see and do in Louisiana.
- Works with other counselors and supervisor to secure reliable information on current activities, festivals, attractions, lodging, restaurants, and other tourism related businesses in order to be knowledgeable about pertinent events, exhibits, activities, and new developments in tourism business, and to continually increase general knowledge of the state.
- Works with other travel counselors and the supervisor to continually compile, file, and update reference materials, and utilizes the internet responsibly in order to increase the resources available and to find answers' to visitors unusual questions.
- Attends and participates in job safety training, position and center specific training, and other courses that may be required or recommended.
- Undertakes clerical assignments including but not limited to brochure ordering and inventory, photocopying, filing, regular entry of visitor register information into the ZIP code database, and brochure placements in racks.
