About Job

Job Description:
As a Counseling Resident at Coastal Virginia Mental Health Services, you will play a critical role in delivering high-quality mental health care, including outpatient counseling, and group sessions for court-mandated clients. You will work under the supervision of licensed professionals to provide therapeutic support, facilitate group discussions, and contribute to treatment planning and implementation. This position is an excellent opportunity for those seeking to fulfill residency requirements towards licensure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct individual and group therapy sessions within an outpatient framework.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans under supervision, tailored to the needs of a diverse client population.
  • Provide psychoeducation and support to clients in managing mental health conditions.
  • Document and maintain accurate client records in compliance with ethical standards and confidentiality requirements.
  • Participate in regular supervision (both group and individual) and training sessions to enhance professional skills and ensure adherence to best practices.

Education Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in counseling from a CACREP-accredited counseling program is preferred.
  • Registered as a Resident in Counseling in the state of Virginia, or eligible to register upon hire.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients, families, and colleagues.
  • Experience in conducting group therapy and working with diverse populations.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and adhere to all confidentiality requirements.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
