This is a 24 hour a week Part Time Position- Bilingual Spanish Speaking
The Family Support Counselor is responsible for teaching the Parenting classes utilizing the Nurturing Parenting evidenced-based curriculum and reporting to the Family Support Coordinator. The Nurturing Parenting program provides parenting classes to voluntary and court-mandated clients with substance use disorders, domestic violence and other family issues. The Family Support Counselor is trained to have extensive knowledge and skills in working with the Nurturing Families Program Curriculum. They work with each family and facilitate weekly parenting groups which helps families develop strength-based action plans to address areas identified as challenges, provide information to improve parenting skills, teach child development and maintain collaborative relationships with primary care providers and the community. Provide quality group facilitation and coordination that supports the overall wellbeing of parents and families.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in social work or human service related field
- Prior group facilitation
- Bilingual / Spanish Speaking preferred
- Prior work with families preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively (written and oral), especially to a large group.
- Proficient in computer applications (Microsoft, Excel and PowerPoint).
- Must have good listening, communication and writing skills.
- Must be willing and able to work well with others and cooperate in the sharing of resources and information to obtain the final work product.
- Acceptance and respect for diversity of culture, sexual orientation, gender identity of expression, ability, and religious belief.
Examples of Duties
- Facilitate Parenting education classes using Nurturing Families curriculum
- Conduct program intakes for clients
- Provide coaching, mentoring, modeling, and support to clients
- Administer AAPI (Adult Adolescent Parenting Inventory)
- Reports all program updates and compliance to Coordinator;
- Ensures all data is updated as required by program requirements
- Make verbal and written reports to referral source as required
- Attend all Nurturing Families facilitator training sessions
- Attend training/ workshops on an ongoing basis and meets the requirements.
- Participate in development of family programming
- Complete and/or submit all required documentation in a timely manner.
- Participate in regular staff meetings, staff training programs and supervisory sessions.
- Work collaboratively with program staff to best meet the needs of clients.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as directed as by Director of Substance Use Services.
