Job Description
As the On-Call Parent Support Counselor, you'll have a rewarding opportunity to provide assistance and support to our Parenting Stress Helpline when regularly scheduled Parent Support Counselors are unavailable. You'll be responsible for covering backup shifts to ensure that the helpline remains operational at all times. On-call coverage shifts are available Monday through Thursday between 9 AM and 9 PM PST and Friday between 9 AM and 5 PM PST. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide telephone counseling & support, crisis intervention & prevention, information and referrals to intra-agency services and external community resources. Includes one-time callers as well as ongoing phone support and/or case management.
- Take incoming calls, make assigned callbacks, check voicemail, and maintain and update the agency resource database, as needed.
- Complete required documentation of calls and intra-agency referrals into the electronic health records system (EHRS).
- Complete reports related to child abuse, elder/dependent adult abuse and or other safety situations that may arise as legally or ethically required.
- Attend all team and agency meetings as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in psychology, social work, counseling or other related field, plus 2 years of experience in counseling, crisis intervention, and prevention for system-involved/foster parents from diverse/under-resourced communities.
- Bachelor's degree with at least 5 years of the same experience will be considered.
- Knowledge of child development and positive parenting practices, including laws related to child abuse.
- Highly proficient computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook), database skills, internet and research skills.
Other skills desired:
- Licensed MFT, LCSW, or on the licensure track.
- Fluent Bilingual Spanish speaker
- Knowledge of Strengthening Families Framework™, trauma informed care, positive parenting practices and motivational interviewing interventions.
- Experience working on a hotline/helpline.
Special Requirements:
- Must pass criminal records clearance.
- A computer with secure and reliable internet, a smartphone, and a private space to conduct calls is required.
Weekly Hours: On-call
- This position is a remote, on-call position. A private space to conduct calls is required, but the employee may choose to work their shift in our Oakland office if they prefer.
Pay Rate: $29.54 - $31.82/hour
