Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending training or license requirements may be temporarily accepted with the condition of meeting all requirements before hire. Current VA-employed physicians who met initial appointment standards are deemed qualified. Basic requirements include:
- U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens only if qualified citizens are unavailable)
- Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school
- Unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
- Completion of approved residency training leading to board eligibility
- Residency approval by ACGME, AOA, or equivalent with verified practice experience
- Enrolled residents in approved programs are eligible for appointment as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and only appointed on a fee or intermittent basis, not as independent practitioners
- Proficiency in English
- Board certification (additional requirement)
- Physical ability to perform all position activities without restriction
Duties
- This is an open continuous announcement; qualified applicants will be referred weekly.
- Provide psychiatric services to veteran patients at Fayetteville VA Coastal Healthcare System.
- Work hours generally from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding federal holidays, with on-call duties as needed.
- Perform psychiatric evaluations, medication management, referrals, and outpatient treatment.
- Conduct initial assessments, safety evaluations, develop treatment plans, order tests, and determine patient disposition.
- Coordinate with specialists, document all care in CPRS, and ensure compliance with VA policies and accreditation standards.
- Prescribe medications per formulary and regulations, with referrals handled by administrative staff.
- Maintain licensure and BLS certification, provide psychiatric consultation, and perform additional duties as assigned.
